Several NAR members this week have reported receiving a suspicious email regarding updates to a member directory. The sender—claiming to be NAR—uses an elon.edu address, and the message itself is riddled with random word capitalizations and misuse of the REALTOR® mark. It’s also missing the association’s logo as well as other identifying information—signs that the email did not come from NAR. Here’s an excerpt of the phishing email:
“In order to create a unified Realtor and affiliate list, we have come up with a database of active Realtors in conjunction with local Real Estate associations. This is to help Realtors, Lenders, Title agents and Lenders have statewide access to each other, to assist new Realtors for mentorship purposes and education while also maintaining professional ethics and standards. In Lieu of this, please look through attached Member Directory PDF list and ensure your contact information and active Mobile Number is correctly represented.”
Recipients of this email should not open it or respond in any way. Anyone who has opened it or entered any information or credentials should immediately change their nar.realtor passwords and other related passwords.
