Ariel photography can offer you a huge advantage in marketing a property, but there are important things about drones you need to know.

Recently, Paul Aitken, Chief Pilot and CTO for DroneU, provided a free class to GAAR members about the use of drones in our region.

The new FAA rules that went into effect August 29th don't require an FAA-issued pilot's license to fly a drone, but it does require a Remote Pilot Certificate.

To obtain a remote pilot certificate with a sUAS rating, you must meet the following eligibility requirements: 1) be at least 16 years old; 2) be able to read, write, and understand the English language; and 3) be in a physical and mental condition that allows for the safe operation of the sUAS; 4) pass an initial aeronautical knowledge test.

While a commercial license is not required, local REALTORS® are advised use a commercial Remote Pilot that holds insurance to mitigate risk to your business. 

Albuquerque REALTORS® also need to be aware that aerial photography in the neighborhoods surrounding Kirkland Airforce Base and Sunport is very restricted and requires permission. Using a professional Remote Pilot, as opposed to a hobbyist, can help you better understand where you can and cannot use arial photography and help keep you out of trouble.

From a public relations perspective, you should also consider notifying your client's neighbors in case they have privacy concerns.
